Is the life of LED display really like that of LED lights? Let's use the latest IES TM-21 testing technology in Europe and the United States to determine whether the LED display life is so long.
TM-21 can infer lumen maintenance of LED products
IES TM-21 file is a test method developed by the Illuminating Engineering Society Technical Committee after years of efforts. TM-21 can infer lumen maintenance of LED products, namely LED light output at different lit times. TM-21 is very important; its importance is reflected in: LED life may be more than 50,000 hours, which is much longer than traditional lighting. It is unrealistic to test all the time, because it lasts too long, and probably will be eliminated in their lifetime. In addition, the wholesale leds do not directly extinguish like the other light sources, LED light decay is very slow. It is still a topic of discussion where is LED "death point".
TM-21 is a very big step forward
In order to better understand the importance of TM-21, we first review the LM-79 and LM-80. LM-79 is electrical and photometric measurement and identification method for LED products which integrate control circuit and the heat sink, covering a total luminous flux, electric power, efficacy, and chrominance and luminance distribution measurement. LM-79 can calculate the initial performance of the whole lamp. However, the LM-79 does not involve the measurement of product reliability and life. LM-80 tests lumen maintenance rate of LED packages, arrays and modules at different temperatures, testing at least 6000 hours, and each 1000 hours are a beginner, it is recommended testing 10 000 hours. But even if being tested 10 000 hours, it is far less than the life of most led lights wholesale products claimed on the market. TM-21 can estimate the lumen maintenance amount at different lit time in a relatively small test of time, making up for the vacancy of a performance test, and thus it is very important. However, TM-21 covers only the test of LED packages, arrays and modules and other components will also affect the lamp life, such as drivers, thermal management and packaging, if these are taken into account, it will be more meaningful. But it is undeniable that the TM-21 is a very big step forward.
TM-21cannot be used for the testing of other peripheral devices
From the descriptions above, we can know the TM-21 can only estimate the lumen maintenance of LED lights being illuminated for different time in a relatively small test of time, but cannot be used for the testing of other peripheral devices, so the LED display life will be more meaningful and more accurate if the thermal management and other aspects are being taken into account.
